PINE NEEDLES
The Treehouse of Your Dreams
Featured in California Home & Design magazine, this LEED Certified Gold home pays homage to the mid-century modern structure that sat on the lot before. Many of the lines of the original structure remain the same, and elements of the mid-century era can be seen throughout the home: post and beam construction, atriums to bring in natural light, floor-to-ceiling glass, built-in furniture. What's repeated constantly throughout is the connection between the outdoors and in: each space has a direct view or access to the natural beauty of the tree and sandstone-filled, picturesque lot. It's what makes this property special. The best of both worlds, it’s located only a few blocks to the ocean, yet one feels like they are in a glamorous, secluded tree house when they are in it.
The details were meticulously poured over, and while sometimes challenging, netted some unique and elegant results. Soheil showed his true talent in the Master Builder role, adjusting plans to meet current requests. The result is a completely custom collaboration in which both architect and client feel mutual admiration for each other's contribution to what will likely be a well-lauded work of art.
Exterior
Dark tones contrast with lights in the spectacular design of the Crosby Residence. With all of its beauty, the Crosby Residence is still wildly sustainable. Drought-tolerant landscaping is used to lower the water usage while large windows let in an abundance of natural light. Retractable glass walls bring continuity from the exterior to the interior and allow for passive ventilation into the home, A balcony overlooking the front yard serves as a great spot to watch sunsets and have outdoor summer meals with family and friends.
The Crosby Residence was a special venture for Soheil. As one of his most creative endeavors to date, he got the chance to collaborate with a client that was like-minded in vision: a rare combination that produced a spectacular outcome. The joint effort between Soheil and Julie ended up as a working partnership, and they are now collaborating on more projects together.
Interior
The Crosby Residence interior contains beautiful yet environmentally conscious materials. Rich colored woods are used throughout the home, contrasting with the stone surrounding the fireplace and with the black beams. A large marble countertop allows for an open, family-style kitchen without taking away from the overall aesthetic. Two interior atriums literally bring the outdoors in, as massive windows provide excellent natural lighting. Every element of this custom Del Mar modern home works in harmony with the other. The result is a sanctuary for family and friends to gather as a getaway to enjoy the beauty of nature and leave the stresses of everyday life behind.
